The Information Hidden in What Isn't Said

In any room where something significant is at stake, two conversations run at once. The first is spoken and minuted. The second is carried in what people avoid, defer, over-explain or agree to too quickly.

The second conversation is not hidden out of bad faith. People protect positions they cannot yet name, obligations elsewhere, doubts they are not ready to voice.

Reading it is not a matter of suspicion. It is a matter of attention: noticing where energy concentrates, where it withdraws, and where a stated position and an actual commitment have quietly separated.

Naming it precisely — without accusation — is often what allows a stalled situation to move.
